There have been plenty of exciting additions to the Essendon Royals senior women’s squad ahead of Season 2020, but we are equally excited to announce the re-signing of Alicia Cullinane.

Cullinane has represented the Essendon Royals with great distinction over the last seven seasons, rising through the club’s junior ranks and player, coach and club alike are delighted to see her recommit for her eighth year in the famous red and white.

Coach Mick Gallo said he has been impressed with Cullinane’s efforts in pre-season thus far have been remarkable.

A Royal through-and-through, Gallo expects Cullinane to play a big role in maintaining the team’s fantastic culture which was so crucial to 2019’s promotion from State League 2.

“A loyal, committed and hardworking player, Alicia knows what it takes to part of the Royals culture having been at the club for seven years,” he said.

“She brings strong leadership and determination, which will help us grow and develop further as a squad in 2020.

“I am excited to have a loyal and committed player of Alicia's stature recommit to the club.”

Cullinane said she was delighted to be continuing her football journey at Essendon and looked forward to the challenges of taking on State League 1.

“I’m really excited about next year and the challenges the squad are going to face together in State 1,” she said.

“This group of girls have created such a unique bond and culture and it can only grow. I’m eager and excited to be coached under Mick and Jess [Gallo] and see what they have in store for us.

“We are in for a big year.”
