MATCH PREVIEW | Royals eye-off promotion places in crucial catch-up round
The Essendon Royals are eyeing off second place in the Women’s State League 2 North-West division when they take on Clifton Hill at Quarries Park tomorrow.
The Royals sit just one point behind Hume City, who currently occupy the second spot on the ladder, with this week’s catch up game representing Essendon’s game in hand.
But three points is anything but guaranteed with a tough away trip to contend with.
This game did kick-off three weeks ago but was abandoned due to a hail storm which interrupted play and affected the state of the pitch after just 30 minutes.
That 30-minute spell was enough to show coach Johno Clemente that the Clifton Hills girls were a worthy match of his brilliant Royals.
“We’re enjoying a good run of form at the moment with our only loss coming in round 1, however, this week is a huge test, we played them for 30 minutes a few weeks ago and they matched us,” Clemente said.
“As I said before the first time this game was meant to take place, they’ve recruited well and they’ve got a lot of quality so it’ll be a hard test to get a result against this team.
“But this is why we play and coach.
“We want to play tough games against good opposition and so we are looking forward to it.”
