MATCH PREVIEW | Essendon Royals seek return to Women's State League 2 winners list against St Albans Saints
The Essendon Royals are keen to get back on the Women's State League 2 winners list and reignite their promotion charge when St Albans Saints visit on Sunday.
It was the reverse fixture last season that prompted an incredible nine-game winning streak and coach Johno Clemente is hopeful another win this time around will have a similar effect.
However, Clemente is expecting a much tougher challenge from the Saints this time around, given they have usurped the Royals into third spot on the table.
"The reverse fixture saw us start our undefeated run and was a massive turning point for us, but that game looking back at it nothing went wrong that day and we played fantastically well," he said.
"I’m expecting a very different game this time around, they’ve taken our spot on the ladder and the points tally doesn’t lie, they're ahead for a reason so we’re excited to see how we match up against them."
Despite the frustration of two draws in the last two weeks, Clemente is taking the positives from his team's overall performances.
"We’ve had two frustrating results in games we felt we deserved more but there are lots of positives to take out, this time last season we only took two points from the first three games, now we’ve got five so we’re on track to better our points tally," he said.
"The key is just to play our style this weekend and remind everyone why we’ve done so well so far.
"However, this team isn’t results-based and it never has been, we will continue to improve and if we do that I’m sure the results will come and that will just be a bonus."
