Royals Deliver Swift Justice To Maribyrnong | Match Report
Essendon Royals 5 (Steph Pantazopoulos x4, Marcella Marques)
Maribyrnong Swifts 0
Essendon Royals made it 10 goals in two outings with another scintillating State League 2 North-West display this week.
A four-goal haul from Steph Pantazopoulos coupled with a marvellous solo effort from Marcella Marques did the damage as the Royals proved too good for the Swifts on a lovely Sunday at East Keilor Leisure Centre.
The win was the Royals’ second on the trot and sees Essendon rise up the State League 2 North-West table with a hugely improved goal difference following two stunning performances.
The Royals asserted themselves from the first minute, locking the Swifts into their defensive half and forcing the Maribyrnong goalkeeper into a string of fine saves.
Royals would not be denied though and it was a Pantazopoulos penalty which opened the scoring for Essendon.
Before the day was done, the Royals forward would add three more goals to her tally, with Marques netting after a stunning individual move to seal the win.
Coach Johnno Clemente was delighted with the performance and the result.
“I’m happy to get the three points and any time you score five goals in a game means you’ve had a good hit out,” he said.
“I still don’t think we played out best football today and it showed in phases of the game, however it’s a happy place to be in as a coach when you don’;t play your best but still get the win.
“It was a testatement to the character of the group to find the next gear and take control of the game.”
The win sees Essendon rise to fourth on the table and within striking distance of Hume City.
The Royals travel to La Trobe University for their next fixture on Sunday.
