MATCH PREVIEW | Essendon Royals SC v Maribyrnong Swifts SC | Women's State League 2 North-West
Essendon Royals welcome Maribyrnong Swifts to Fairbairn Park in this week’s Women’s State League 2 fixture.
After last week’s 5-1 thrashing of St Albans Saints, confidence is high amongst the Royals girls, but coach Johnno Clemente knows that last week’s performance is no guarantee of a second win in a row.
Thankfully, the girls have shown no sign of letting up in training.
“Training has been at a really high standard,” Clemente said.
“There’s a great mood around the group at the moment, especially after last week, so I’ve got no complaints going into the weekend.”
Clemente said he wanted his team to ride the wave of positivity after last week’s outstanding performance and result, but reminded the players that they need to consistently perform to achieve the goals set for the season.
“It’s great to enjoy the win and take confidence from the game but our aim is to be consistent in our performances for the full 90 minutes,” he said.
“The league is starting to take shape and we’ve played the top four teams now, so we know the standard and we know where we feel we deserve to be come the end of the season.
“For us, consistency is key to getting there.”
The Swifts are without a win this season, taking a record of 0-1-3 into Round 5 with just two goals to their name, but Clemente is not expecting an easy game on Sunday.
“Like any team in this league I’m expecting a tough game,” he said.
“There are no handouts in this league and every team gives you different challenges in the game so we're prepared for a hard 90 minutes.”
The match kicks off at 1 pm this Sunday at East Keilor Leisure Centre.
Get down and support our girls as they look to pick up their second win in a row.
