Valantina ‘Val’ Shamoon will be back for Essendon Royals in 2020.
A member of 2019’s brilliant promotion-winning side, Val returns in 2020 and remains an important member of the squad as coach Mick Gallo continues preparations for the club’s return to State League 1 football.
Val has been playing senior football since the age of 15 and her resigning ensures her wealth of experience, knowledge and leadership remains with the Royals next season.
Val said she was excited to see the new developments in the Royals women’s program for 2020, which to date include the appointment of the club’s inaugural women’s football technical director, Jess Gallo, as well as the appointment of her husband, Mick, as senior women’s coach.
"I see the Royals as a great club that's rebuilding the women's program from the ground up and I'm sure we will be a successful club in the future,” she said.
“I'm excited to work with our new coach Mick and Women's technical director Jess as they seem to have fresh ideas and a wealth of knowledge in women's football."
Coach Mick was similarly delighted to see Val recommit to the club.
“Val is a key signing for the 2020 season. She brings passion, experience and versatility to the squad, as well as ticking all the boxes we are looking for in regard to our culture,” he said.
“Val is honest and hardworking, and will be key to further developing our already strong culture".
We look forward to seeing Val back at Cross Keys in 2020.
