Essendon Royals are delighted to announce the appointment of Mick Gallo as the club’s senior women’s coach for Season 2020.

Gallo arrives at the club during an exciting time for the women’s program, joining his wife, Jess, who was recently unveiled as the Royals’ inaugural Technical Director of Women’s Football.

Gallo brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role as he looks to build on last season’s promotion from State League 2 and establish the Royals women’s team as a force to be reckoned with in State League 1.

“The girls did a fantastic job last season getting promoted to State League 1 and as always the goal has to be to go that little bit further that year.

“There might be a few fresh faces to strengthen the squad heading into a new division and a new season, but those girls got the team promoted and they’ll have every chance to show what they can do in State League 1.”

With NPL experience as both a coach and Technical Director, Gallo has worked at Avondale FC and more recently South Melbourne, where he has worked as senior women’s coach and has built an impressive track record in both men and women’s football.

Gallo is also currently completing his AFC/FFA A-Licence as well as being a current Senior Coach Developer, delivering coaching courses for Football Victoria.

Gallo said he was delighted to be joining the Royals family and hoped to contribute to its continuing growth and success.

“It’s an exciting time for women’s football and the club in general,” he said.

“Everything is heading in the right direction, there’s no doubt about that.

“The conversations I’ve had with people involved in the club have been impressive and I can’t wait to get started.”
