SEASON 2020 | Essendon Royals announce Jess Gallo as club's inaugural Women's Technical Director

Essendon Royals is delighted to announce the appointment of Jess Gallo as the club’s inaugural Technical Director of Women’s Football.

The explosion of interest and participation in the club’s women’s football program has necessitated the appointment to ensure the women’s program gets the attention it needs and deserves to nurture its continued growth.

In Gallo, the Royals are proud to have found a passionate advocate of the women’s game with a fantastic track record as a coach and administrator in women’s football.

Gallo said she was delighted to join the Royals and was looking forward to encouraging the growth of women’s football at the club.

“I think it’s really important to have someone specifically focused on the girls,” she said.

“What the girls need is often completely different to what the boys need and I think it’s important to have a voice for women’s football and provide some direction on the women’s program overall.”

Gallo arrives at the Royals with years of coaching experience behind her, having worked with Avondale FC and South Melbourne FC in their respective women’s programs.

At South Melbourne, Gallo was an NPLW junior coach as well as the Female Welfare Officer.

“I have a strong passion for women’s football and I’m really excited about this role,” Gallo said.

“We want to make sure the environments are safe for women and that the coaches of women’s teams are educated and that the players are given the same opportunities the boys are.”

In her role, Gallo will work with coaches of all-female teams and the club committee to drive initiatives to grow female participation at the club and ensure the Royals are a premier destination for aspiring female footballers of all ages and levels.
