KIDS' CORNER | Coach Ciavarella's Essendon Royals under-9 girls have eye on the prize

Off-season? What off-season?

For Essendon Royals under-9 girls coach Paul Ciavarella and his team of champions, the season is not over yet.

The Royals girls have been busy competing in a range of post-season cups and will take on Keilor Park in the final of the Fawkner Cup on Sunday, October 13 at 10 am at CB Smith Reserve.

Ciavarella said the matches against Keilor Park had become something of a feature this season, with both teams going undefeated in their respective leagues this season.

“They’ve had a season like us. They’re in the west division and we’re in the north division and we’ve both gone undefeated in our leagues,” he said.

“We’ve played them three times this season and we’ve won one, drawn one and lost one, so they’ve become great games in their own right and we’re looking forward to another challenge this weekend.”

The girls' participation in the Fawkner Cup final is fitting in what has been a big week for women’s football at Essendon Royals.

This week, the club announced the appointment of Jess Gallo as the club’s new Technical Director of Women’s Football, as well as her husband Mick Gallo who was appointed as the club’s senior women’s coach.

The Royals wish coach Ciavarella and his team of stars all the best in tomorrow’s cup final and we encourage all Royals families and supporters to get down to CB Smith Reserve to show your support.
